Record investments in renewable energies in 2023
A reason to celebrate: 2023 was a historic year for the energy transition in Germany! According to figures from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), record investments of 36.6 billion euros were made in renewable energies – an increase of 64% compared to 2022.
A milestone on the way to a more sustainable future and figures that are impressive.
The share of renewables in gross electricity consumption rose to almost 52% in 2023. Overall, electricity generation from renewables covered more than half of consumption for the first time. Of this, 47% of investments went to photovoltaics and 24% to wind energy.
The expansion of renewables made it possible to avoid around 250 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2023, of which 195 million tons were in the electricity sector, 44 million tons in the heating sector and 10 million tons in the transport sector. This is good news for the environment and the economy.
More investment in renewable energies means less dependence on fossil fuels, lower CO2 emissions and thus an important step in the fight against climate change. At the same time, the expansion offers jobs to many people – over 387,000 employees worked in this area in 2022.
The future is green, the record numbers show that the energy transition in Germany is already in full swing. Together we can drive it forward and create a livable environment for future generations. Together with our colleagues, we are celebrating our contribution to this milestone!
